Class Coordinator

The Class Coordinator manages the day-to-day logistics of CYT Austin classes and programming and serves as a primary point of contact for parents, students, and Teaching Artists. This role helps ensure an excellent class experience while supporting program growth, communication, and community engagement.
Position: Part-time, hourly. Hours vary.
Reports To: Artistic Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Teaching Artists and Teaching Assistants with scheduling, communication, and class logistics.
  • Serve as an onsite point of contact for parents and students and respond to questions or concerns.
  • Coordinate class sign-in, attendance, substitutes, medical release forms, and other class administration.
  • Support showcases, student evaluations, teacher evaluations, and the overall class-session experience.
  • Recruit and coordinate student and parent volunteers when needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with the CYT Austin team.

Teaching Artist

CYT Austin Teaching Artists have the opportunity to use their experience in theater and the performing arts to develop both the skills and character of young people. Teaching Artists guide students through an engaging class experience while helping them learn the fundamental skills outlined in the CYT curriculum for their particular course.

Reports To: Artistic Director and Managing Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a syllabus, curriculum, and lesson plans for an 8-week CYT class session.
  • Facilitate classes using engaging instruction and positive classroom-management techniques.
  • Create an environment that supports CYT Austin’s mission, values, and code of conduct.
  • Focus on student education, development, and growth rather than simply the final performance.
  • Prepare students to achieve class goals and participate in the end-of-session parent observation or showcase.
  • Maintain professional, positive, and dependable communication and behavior throughout the session.
  • Attend the class showcase and support students as they perform.

We’re Looking For Teaching Artists Who

  • Have experience and confidence in the theater or performing-arts discipline they will teach.
  • Have experience working creatively and positively with children and adults.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organization, and classroom-management skills.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree, are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or possess equivalent experience in theater or the performing arts.
  • Can develop curriculum, lesson plans, and educational content.
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude, including during challenging situations.
  • Support CYT’s mission, values, Commitment to Character, and high artistic standards.
  • Possess a humble and teachable spirit and are comfortable serving within CYT Austin’s Christian mission.
Background checks and child-safety training are required for staff, Teaching Artists, and volunteers working with students and are paid for by CYT Austin.

Master Craftsman

The Master Craftsman co-leads the design, construction, and management of set builds for CYT Austin productions. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building, problem-solving, and leading volunteers while helping bring each production’s scenic vision to life.
Position: Contract position, compensated per session. Hours vary by production schedule.
Reports To: Managing Director

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary hands-on lead for set construction for CYT Austin mainstage productions.
  • Collaborate with the Set Designer to turn scenic designs into practical build plans.
  • Lead parent volunteers during set-build days, providing instruction and hands-on guidance.
  • Manage materials, lumber, hardware, tools, equipment, and set-storage areas.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of reusable flats, platforms, props, and scenic materials.
  • Oversee set load-in and strike at production venues.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure proper tool use and safety procedures.
  • Work with the production team to meet build, tech, and performance deadlines.
We’re Looking For Someone Who
  • Has demonstrated experience in scenic construction, woodworking, construction, or a related skilled trade.
  • Is proficient with power and hand tools, including saws, drills, nail guns, and sanders.
  • Has experience with construction techniques such as wood framing, metal work, painting, and basic rigging.
  • Can read and interpret scenic drawings and production plans.
  • Can effectively lead and encourage parent and student volunteers with varying skill levels.
  • Is organized, safety-conscious, dependable, and able to work within production deadlines.
  • Communicates well and enjoys collaborating as part of a creative production team.
  • Supports CYT’s mission, values, Commitment to Character, and standards of ethics and professionalism.

Music Director

As CYT Austin expands our production schedule, we are looking to add Music Directors to our creative team for future productions.

The Music Director leads the musical preparation and vocal development of a CYT Austin production. Working closely with the Director, Choreographer, and production team, this role helps establish the musical vision for the show and prepares students to perform with confidence, accuracy, character, and strong ensemble musicianship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead music and vocal rehearsals throughout the production process.
  • Teach vocal parts, harmonies, rhythm, diction, and musical interpretation.
  • Help assess student vocal ranges and support appropriate vocal assignments.
  • Work with soloists and ensemble members to strengthen confidence and musical storytelling.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Choreographer to align music, staging, and movement.
  • Coordinate with accompanists, tracks, musicians, or other music resources as needed.
  • Maintain musical quality and consistency through tech week and performances.
We’re Looking For Someone Who
  • Has a strong background in vocal music, musical theater, music education, or a related field.
  • Has experience teaching and directing children and teens.
  • Can read music and teach vocal parts, harmonies, rhythm, and interpretation.
  • Has strong leadership, communication, organization, and rehearsal-management skills.
  • Is positive, patient, dependable, and committed to student growth.
